Concepts
These are the terms you will most commonly see when installing and configuring a Presco Avenger system.
System concepts
Section titled “System concepts”Gravity
Section titled “Gravity”The cloud platform used to commission, configure and monitor Avenger sites and devices.
Represents a physical location / building in Gravity. A site holds its members, address, and assigned Avenger device.
Avenger device
Section titled “Avenger device”The controller hardware installed at a site. Its serial number and encryption certificates identifies it to Gravity and links requests to the correct site.
Commissioning
Section titled “Commissioning”The initial setup process taking place over Bluetooth that connects an Avenger to Wi-Fi, creates a site on Gravity, and assigns the device to that site.
Device presence
Section titled “Device presence”Whether an Avenger currently has a live connection to the Gravity command-and-control service. An offline device cannot receive immediate remote commands or configuration changes.
Physical access concepts
Section titled “Physical access concepts”A logical access point controlled by the Avenger. A door brings together its lock relay, entry reader, exit behavior and monitoring inputs.
Reader
Section titled “Reader”Hardware that reads a credential at a door. Reader configuration determines how received credential data is interpreted.

A monitored physical signal, such as a door contact or request-to-exit input.
A physical output controlled by the Avenger. The lock relay changes the secured or released state of a door.
Door state
Section titled “Door state”The current logical and physical condition of a door, such as locked, unlocked, open, forced open or open too long.
Access concepts
Section titled “Access concepts”Gravity account
Section titled “Gravity account”An account used to sign in to Gravity and manage sites. Site membership controls what the account can view or administer in Gravity.
Access user
Section titled “Access user”A person configured on the Avenger for physical access. An access user is separate from a Gravity account and can hold one or more credentials.
Credential
Section titled “Credential”Something an access user presents to identify themselves, such as a PIN, Wiegand card or Presco card.
A reusable collection of access users. Groups let one access rule apply to several people.
Access rule
Section titled “Access rule”A rule that grants a user or group access to selected doors, either at any time or according to a schedule.
Schedule
Section titled “Schedule”The days and times during which a scheduled access rule is active.
Schedule exception
Section titled “Schedule exception”A date-specific change to normal schedules, commonly used for holidays or other exceptional operating days.
Operational concepts
Section titled “Operational concepts”A time-stamped record of device or access activity, used to understand what happened at a site.
Firmware
Section titled “Firmware”The software running on the Avenger. Gravity reports the installed version and you can initiate an available update through the mobile app.
Backup and restore
Section titled “Backup and restore”A saved copy of device’s site configuration and the process used to apply that configuration back to a device.
Site Configuration
Section titled “Site Configuration”A term used to describe the configuration of a site stored on the device, including access users, access rules, schedules, doors, and other settings.
